Josh Penchina is a NYC born-and-bred, Brooklyn-based nonfiction content producer and writer who gets his jollies by creating true and truly captivating experiences for discerning audiences.
For nearly two decades, he’s been guiding the conception, production, and delivery of nearly 100 hours of premium TV, film, and digital content for Hulu, VICE, A+E, MSNBC, ABC, PBS, Discovery, MTV, Wired.com, CW, National Geographic, A&E IndieFilms, and more. He’s earned a stellar reputation for securing intimate access to challenging stories, people, and places, and for crafting impactful narratives out of today’s most crucial – and sometimes seemingly unremarkable – subjects.
Josh has produced and written dozens of news and culture docs on current events, controversial subcultures/figures, and cultural icons. He’s challenged today’s most dangerous ideologies while embedding with violent hate groups in the US and abroad (Vice’s Hate Thy Neighbor), explored music industry pressures with hip-hop superstars (Hulu’s RapCaviar Presents), embedded as a shooter/producer in high-stakes trauma centers (ABC News’ NY Med), uncovered the inner workings of collegiate cocaine kingpins (A+E’s Secrets of College Greek Life), reported the horrific POV of an ICU Nurse in the early day’s of NYC’s COVID outbreak (the podcast Surge), and directed survival experts in the remote wilds of Laos, Brazil, Belize, and across the Western US (Discovery’s Dual Survival). He’s also produced and written 50+ hours of quality true crime docs on homicide investigations, the criminal justice system, wrongful convictions, and the social justice issues behind most tragedies.
When not at the grindstone, Josh is likely reminiscing about his once storied improv comedy career or rediscovering childlike wonder with two insane and insanely cute toddlers.
